Good bye EOB, hello ASTCA; Eni's office will relocate

Congressman Faleomavaega Eni’s local office will be relocating soon to the new multi-million dollar American Samoa TeleCommunications Authority building in Tafuna which is offering its third floor for commercial leases.

Faleomavaega’s office is the first rent paying tenant in the four story ASTCA building and he told the audience at the ASTCA building's Monday dedication that he “had to reluctantly leave” the EOB because every time it rains his district office gets all the water from the upper level floors and the “rats make it a habit” of eating up the electric wires in the office.

“Perhaps we might do a good job in conducting a good maintenance program” for the EOB Faleomavaega said with a smile.

Gov. Togiola Tulafono appeared to take affront at the congressman's remarks and during his remarks at the dedication he responded pointedly, “we have since covered the roof that was leaking so bad. I too have missed work days because of the leaks but we have now covered the building after all these years of leaking.”

“It doesn’t leak any more - but the Congressman is still leaving and I’m glad.” His remarks elicited laughter from some members of the audience.

ASG's Department of Administrative Services, which oversees maintenance of the EOB, reports in the second quarter (Jan. 1 to Mar. 31, 2012) the “re-roofing of the building” was funded with stimulus money, which is also the source of funding for the remodeling and renovation of the EOB’s bathrooms.

Faleomavaega plans to officially announce their new offices once the relocation is completed. At this point his office staff is awaiting the necessary electrical and telecommunications wiring installation and moving their equipment.
