Samoa PM says Parliament will elect head of state next month
Samoa’s parliament has been adjourned after passing the supplementary and main budget for the new fiscal year and will resume on July the 20th to elect a new head of state.
The Prime Minister, Tuila’epa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, revealed the date in parliament and also announced the current head of state can be re-nominated for the position according to the constitution.
The Prime Minister has urged MPs to pray and rely on God’s guidance in their decisions on who should be nominated.
The head of state, Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, is the first to be elected to the top post after the first two heads of state had held the position for life.
