FFAS has successfully kicked off its first 5-a-side league since 2009 on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

Utulei Youth took the title back in 2009 in what was the last time FFAS organized this 5- a-side, outdoors competition. In 2010 FFAS held a futsal competition while no such competitions were held in 2011.

“Because of the unavailability of high school gymnasiums for us to hold a futsal league this year, we’ve decided instead to have an outdoor competition based on the futsal set up,” said FFAS CEO Tavita Taumua.

That set up is the dimension for the field of play as well as the number of players and many other similar rules.

“We haven’t had an FFAS competition so far for our senior level and this one fits into that category,” Taumua pointed out. “This will give our clubs a competition before our main one which is our 11-a-side that is tentatively scheduled to start in August.”

There are 17 teams competing in the men’s competition and it is divided up into two different pools.

Pool A consists of Kiwi Soccers, Vaiala Tonga, Vaitogi United, Lauli’i Moli o le Ava, Black Roses, Lion Heart B, Utulei Youth, PanSa and Pago Youth A.

Pool B is made up of Lion Heart A, Pago Youth B, Ilaoa & To’omata, Atu’u Broncos, Tafuna Jets, Green Bay, Vaitogi United A and FC SKBC.

In the women’s competition, there are 10 teams and there is no division of pools. The teams competing are Lion Heart, Utulei Youth, Pago Youth, Vaitogi United, Tafuna Jets, PanSa, Green Bay, Kiwi Soccers, Black Roses and Ilaoa & To’omata.
