Army Staff Sgt. Taelimu Totive has been awarded the Commander's Coin of Excellence in recognition of outstanding individual specific achievement, accomplishment, or performance within or outside the service member's assigned job responsibilities or line of duty.

The military coin is a powerful symbol used by commanders to promote pride, build cohesion, increase morale within a unit, and show personal appreciation to service members.

Totive is a drill sergeant with A Battery, 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Okla. She has served 12 years in the military.

She is the sister of Sai Totive of South Delta Avenue, Lawton, Okla.

The staff sergeant is a 1998 graduate of Leone High School and is from the village of Malaeloa.
