Fundraisers scheduled for family of slain Newark teen
NEWARK -- School community members have planned several fundraisers to help defray funeral costs for the family of Osana Futi, an 18-year-old Newark Memorial High student who was fatally stabbed last weekend.
Any funds raised will go toward the Osana Futi Memorial Fund and will help pay for funeral services in the East Bay and for transporting the teen's body to American Samoa, where he was born, for services there, said Stacy Kelly, president of the Newark Memorial High boosters.
A bake sale will be held all day Saturday at Newark Junior High School at 6201 Lafayette Ave. in conjunction with football games involving the Mission Valley Cougars, a Newark youth team. Also, a carwash will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the 76 Gas station at 35425 Newark Blvd., Kelly said.
Another fundraiser will begin at 7:30 p.m. May 12, when professional wrestling bouts are scheduled to be presented by Big Time Wrestling at Newark Memorial High School at 39375 Cedar Blvd. A portion of ticket sales and all concession purchases from the wrestling contests will go toward the memorial fund.
