Local Shriners Club annual golf tourney continues tradition of great community support
The American Samoa Shriners Club held their 20th Annual Golf Tournament this past Saturday at the IliIli Golf course, battling it out for a good cause, with the proceeds going towards transportation costs for patients going to Shriners Hospital for Children in Hawaii.
“We are very fortunate considering how bad the economic climate is here and the situation with the times being tough, we very fortunate to have a successful tournament,” said the Golf Tournament coordinator, Taotasi Archie Solia’i.
“We had twenty teams that came out to play and around thirty total. Our main sponsors this year were GHC Reid, Hamburg Sud and Rotary. Rotary Club donated $2,500 to the Shriners this morning and we are very thankful for that as well. All twenty teams that played today received a prize due to it being our twentieth tournament” said Solia’i.
“All of the proceeds for every fundraiser we have, goes to paying the transportation costs for the patients being transferred between here in American Samoa and Hawaii.
The proceeds of the tournament are still being tallied and were not yet available as of press time.
According to their website, www.shrinersinternational.org, Shriners International is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth, with approximately 325,000 members in 194 temples (chapters).
