Samoa shipping service to Cook Islands to begin

The Samoa Shipping Corporation begins a new service to five northern islands of the Cook Islands this Friday using the vessel Samoa Express.

The General Manager of the Samoa Shipping Corporation says the islands need regular shipping to deliver produce such as nonu, coconuts and fish.

Papalii Willie Nansen says no other vessel is supplying the service.

He says residents of the islands have placed orders for goods from Samoa.

Families in Samoa are also using the new service to send supplies for their relatives in the Cook Islands.

Papalii says Wallis and Futuna is another possibility and the Corporation will look at expanding their service to these islands.

The SSC’s Lady Naomi passenger and cargo vessel travels weekly to American Samoa and once a month to Tokelau.
