Sharks gearing up for 2012 fautasi race

The Samoana High School Sharks fautasi crew carries their fautasi across the street from Utulei Beach Park into their high school gymnasium just after a practice session, where they are preparing to compete for the second time, in as many years, in the 2012 American Samoa Flag Day Celebration fautasi race.

Last year, when Samoana made their debut in the race, they were considered a long shot, but placed 2nd — shocking the fautasi aficionados.

In the original version of this story, we mistakenly said the Aeto took the victory in last year’s race. It actually was Nuuuli that won.  We apologoize for the error and thank all of you who corrected our mistake
