TEO awards prizes in first Energy Jingle Contest
The Territorial Energy Office has completed its first “energy jingle contest” held in celebration of Energy Awareness Month (October) highlighting TEO's ongoing efforts to promote energy conservation and awareness.
Salamasina Satele, TEO’s Administrative Program Manager said this contest allowed the participants to help the island of American Samoa learn to SAVE ENERGY and GO GREEN.
She explained that there were two categories for the contest — either a 30-60 second radio ad, or a 60-second Video. The submissions were accepted for three divisions: Lower Elementary, (Pre-School to 4th Grade), Upper Elementary (5th Grade to 8th Grade) and High School (9th Grade to 12th Grade).
Participants were asked to submit an entry in a commonly used format for a sound bite, video and/or an in person presentation of a song or skit about SAVING ENERGY.
The entries were evaluated by the TEO staff as to the extent to which the jingle conveys the message and spirit of Saving Energy, using three main criteria: originality, creativity and relevance. It was weighted: 25% for creativity, 25% for originality and 50% for relevance.
According to Satele, they received a total of 19 submissions for this contest, and the winning jingles will be used for TEO ads on radio and television.
Six entrants from each category received a plaque on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 for display at their respective schools and the winners were individually given additional prizes with help from some "great sponsors."
The award ceremony was held at the ASTCA conference room.
