Warriors, Lions remain undefeated in ASHSAA girls Varsity volleyball

Wildcats running away with wins in Jr. Varsity

The Leone Lions and Tafuna Warriors continue their undefeated streak in this year’s American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Volleyball season Varsity Division, while in the Junior Varsity Division the Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats are running away with the wins as the only undefeated team in the division.

This past Wednesday at the Malaeloa gym, the Wildcats battled it out the with Fa’asao Marist Cougars in both Varsity and Junior Varsity match ups. In the Varsity game, the Cougars were able to walk away with the win, as they downed Wildcats in two sets, 25-12 and 25-8 to take the match. In the Junior Varsity game, the ‘dominating’ Wildcats stayed that way as they disposed of the Cougars, 12-25 and 24-26, despite being taken to the limit in the second set.

In the other game on Wednesday, the Lions traveled to South Pacific Academy, home of the Dolphins for a Varsity match up with the Dolphins, while their Junior Varsity Lions went head to head with the Warriors. In the Varsity game, the Lions managed to stay undefeated as they took out a very game opponent in the Dolphins 11-25 and 11-25. The Lions Junior Varsity however had a much harder time, as they were defeated by the Warriors 25-8 and 25-15.

The Kanana Fou Stallions, Samoana Sharks and the Dolphins in the Varsity Division are still struggling at this time trying to look for a light, any light at the end of the tunnel. The Faga’itua Vikings, who are right behind the two leaders in the division, will be tested today as they face the Warriors.

Good news for the Vikings is that this game will be taking place at their school where their home crowd will, no doubt ,give them the advantage. If the Vikings take this win, they will definitely have the right to be in the top three, but if they lose, it will be just another win for the Warriors and another loss for the rest of the pack.

In the other Varsity game today, the defending Varsity Champion Sharks, will be traveling to the home of the Stallions where these two teams will be looking just to keep their heads above water as they are near the bottom of the Varsity standings. In the Junior Division, if the Wildcats momentum does not change soon altering their course, they just might continue with their unblemished record if they keep playing the same way.

Each regular season game has a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m. ASHSAA Volleyball Coordinator Tumua Matu’u invites the public out to all of the games in support of ASHSAA sports and our athletes.
