IWVBA Shield League 2012 championship day set for this Saturday
The Islandwide Volleyball Association (IWVBA) Shield League 2012 just concluded its playoff games this past Saturday with ten games and heads into its championships this coming Saturday at the Samoana High School Gymnasium.
To start the playoff games last Saturday, the top four teams in the Women’s Division battled it out to see who would be playing for the women’s championship this coming Saturday. The first game had Vatia Girls going down in defeat to the BTI Blockerettes in two sets, 4-17 and 11-17. In the second playoff game in the Women’s Division, Team All 4 One had an easy time with the Fiafia Girls, as the All 4 One team had a Forfeit Victory and will now be advancing to the championship game against the BTI Blockerettes.
The Blockerettes are not just the current Women’s shield holders, they have been the favorite to take the women’s championship title since the start of the season last month. The All 4 One team however, has been coming on strong lately stepping up with improved plays the past two weeks.
In the Mens B Division, the top 4 teams played out to see who would advance to the championship round. The first game had Fetu o le Afiafi falling victim to the powerhouse team of Sons of Samoa in two sets, 11-17 and 13-17, while the second game saw Team SBC Family take down Ave Ma Oe 15-11 and 17-12. This Saturday, the Sons of Samoa (current Mens B Division Shield Holder) will be playing SBC Family for the championship title in the Mens B Division.
The Mens A Division had the top 8 teams playing to see who would advance to the top 4. The first game had All 4 One cruising to victory over the 4 Cona Boys, 17-8 and 17-10, while the Fiafia Boys had an easy time with Team IMUA, as the Fiafia Boys walked away with a forfeit victory. Rapanui Slammers was slammed by the Sons of Samoa in two sets, 14-17 and 16-17. The Uso Boys defeated the A.T.O. Boys 17-13 and 17-14.
The top 4 teams were now set, which saw the Fiafia Boys advancing to the finals as they defeated the Sons of Samoa 17-7 and 17-14. All 4 One (current Mens A Division Shield Holder) was also able to make it to this Saturday as they won in a thrilling three set victory over the Uso Boys, 17-16, 13-17 and 15-8.
The championship day will having a starting time of 8:00 a.m. at the Samoana High School gymnasium. The president of the IWVBA Legae’e ‘Lang’ Mauga, wishes to invite the public out to this Saturday’s IWVBA Shield League 2012 Championship Day.
