Samoa man charged with murder of taxi driver

The police in Samoa have charged a man with the murder of a taxi driver on Tuesday night.

Police say the 28 year-old driver was killed at gun point outside a shop at Vaitele.

They say the suspect, who was a passenger, allegedly shot the driver in the back of the head once they arrived at the store.

Our correspondent, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says the man is now in police custody.

“The suspect apparently ended the relationship with a girlfriend, frustrated, and angry, I suppose, and he was armed with a .22 pistol, going on the road looking for a car to stop, and then he got in the taxi.”

Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia says another man, the brother of the deceased, was in the taxi at the time and had also been threatened by the suspect.
