The magical ‘Christmas in the Park’ concert that is widely staged in countries like New Zealand and parts of the United States of America and Australia, is coming to Samoa for the first time this year.

Preparations are underway for a musical extravaganza filled with sounds and colours. Performers, dancers, singers, choirs and bands will have an all-Samoan line up from overseas and locally on the 15 December.

This was announced by producer, Tuala Joe Ponifasio in an email on Saturday.

Tuala told the Samoa Observer that Christmas in the Park will bring home the elements of Christmas, peace, love and everything to do with the Christmas festive season.

“I believe Samoa is ready for a concert of this magnitude and the people will embrace it,” he said.

“Our own people deserve to be treated to such an enjoyable experience.

“We want this event to become an annual event on our country’s tourism calendar so people can plan their Christmas activities around the date of this event.

“It’s about the spirit of Christmas, joy, giving and gifting and the focus is on the family.”

The concert also promises the presence of Santa Claus in a fashionable way for the children of Samoa.

The producer was also excited to announce that the show is free for everyone; a gift to all the families.

Tuala was reassuring that the organisers will provide a safe and secure atmosphere for everyone who will be attending the concert.

According to Tuala, the organizer and Executive Producer of the NZ Christmas in the Park event, Mr. Alan Smythe has endorsed his support and backing of the Samoa Events Management Company Ltd.

Samoa Events Management Company is the local company which will be responsible for staging the concert in Samoa.

Christmas in the Park is an annual event in New Zealand which started some 19 years ago.

Mr. Smythe came to Samoa 12 years ago as a guest speaker at a tourism conference organized by the then Samoa Visitor’s Association. He spoke on the topic of tourism events.

The presentation looked into the importance of events such as Christmas in the Park not only for local people, but for visiting families and friends to Samoa during the festive season.

The organisers of the event are asking families to keep the 15 December free.
