Samoan cousins accepted to rival service academies

Military academies are viewed as some of the most prestigious institutions around, so you can imagine what scholar-athletes Toese Gaoteote Tia and Adam Tagovailoa Amosa of Campbell High School were thinking when they opened their college acceptance letters.

Texas Vipers win Under 12 Youth Gridiron Tourney

On June 22, 2014 the San Antonio Texas Vipers traveled all the way to California and won the Under 12 Youth National Gridiron Football Tourney in Chino Hills, CA.
 
The team included many young players from the Samoan Congregational Church of Ft. Hood, Texas— including head coach Semaia Lealaimatafao (IliIli) and players Tulamalosi Lefotu (Aoloau Fou), Aiava Lealaimatafao (IliIli), Siolosega Tauiliili (Manu’a) and Pati Tauiliili Jr (Manu’a).

Miss Flowers 2014 Miah Tupufia, a well deserved win

Miss Flowers 2014 Beauty Pageant or “Flower Power’s” newly crowned queen is Miah Tupufia which, according to the audience, was a well deserved win. Miah, who’s a makeup artist and mixologist, was sponsored by House of Barbie and Tony’s Bar and Grill/ Nina Fiamalua.
 



Lea Ashley Ale graduates in Minn

Lea Ashley Ale graduated from Benilde-St. Margaret's High School in St. Louis Park, Minnesota on May 30, 2014. 
 
An accomplished contra-bass player, Lea will be touring Spain this summer with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies before starting college this fall at Arizona State University's Herberger School of Music.
 
Lea is the daughter of Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo V. Ale and Janette Ale of Nua & Se'etaga and Fitiuta, Manu'a. 
 
 



Andrew Ah Young receives UCLA Fellowship

Local student Andrew Ah Young, a 2005 graduate of Tafuna High School, has been selected to receive a 2014-2015 Dissertation Year Fellowship (DYF) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the intellectual community and progress towards completing his doctoral degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).

The first-born child in any family is often an exceptional person — a trailblazer of sorts. Isaac Mageo, born December 11, 1996 fits the description to a “t”. With two younger brothers: Timothy, 13 and Jacob, 10, and a baby sister, Irie Molitui, 7 years (who is “Isaac’s real boss and the princess of the family” according to his mother Leann), Isaac has set a shining example for his siblings, as well as his friends and classmates.
 



Bernadette Sword graduates from Southern Utah U

Bernadette Alaisea Annie Sword, 2009 Leone High School Salutatorian, recently graduated with honors from Southern Utah University with a Bachelors of Science in Human Nutrition and a minor in Psychology.
 
Bernadette, who was recognized as a member of the Deans List, is the granddaughter of the late Seigafolava Leonard and Alaisea Tuitele-Yandall of Leone, and the late James and Annie Haleck-Sword of Pavaiai.
