Brianna Aumoeualogo named Salutatorian

Brianna Aumoeualogo, daughter of Matoka and Lynn Aumoeualogo, granddaughter of late HTC Muafono Asosā Fai’aipa’u & Elisapeta Aumoeualogo from the villages of Alofau and Tula graduated June 3 from Lake Dallas High School in Texas.



Ah Young family gathers for graduation

Andrew Pati Ah Young graduated this month with a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles.

 

Andrew is a resident of Faleniu and Fagasa and is the son of Luisa and Sua Ah Young. His whole family, including his mom (right, standing) and dad (5th from left standing), were on hand in southern California to congratulate him and celebrate his achievement.

HONOLULU — More than 200 students, parents and Samoan community members filled the Moanalua Terrace Community Center for Le Fetuao Samoan Language Center’s End of School Year Celebration. The event held on Saturday, May 24, 2015 was dedicated to celebrating the Samoan language and culture.

 



Tautalagia “Tuni” Sotoa Numera, passes away

Tautalagia “Tuni” Sotoa Numera passed away on Monday, June 1st, 2015 at the age of 86.
 
Tuni was born February 27, 1929, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, the son of the late Taua & Siao Numera. He proudly served his country in the USMC for 27 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. Serving combat in the Korean War and 7 tours in Vietnam, he was awarded several medals for valor; to include, the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the Bronze Star (Combat V), and the Purple Heart (with Gold Star).

The Home of the Stallions – Kanana Fou High School graduated 58 senior students, who were recognized and accepted by Department of Education Deputy Director Philo Jennings, on behalf of the DOE Director Dr. Vaitinasa Finau Salu Hunkin, during yesterday morning’s commencement exercise at the Kanana Fou Theological Seminary at Kanana Fou.

 

The ceremony was jam packed with families and friends of the graduating class of 2015.

 



CU’S SEFO LIUFAU REVISITS FAMILY ROOTS IN AMERICAN SAMOA

When members of the Colorado football team are telling stories this week about what they did with their three weeks off in May, ears might perk up when quarterback Sefo Liufau starts talking.

 

Liufau is back on campus after spending a week of his break in American Samoa with his father, Joe, visiting his extended family, including his grandmother. Liufau's father was born in American Samoa and Liufau has visited the small group of islands approximately 5,000 miles southwest of California numerous times.



Marine Sanctuary volunteer of the year

David Jennings, the Community-at-Large representative for Swains Island on the Sanctuary Advisory Committee, has been named the 2015 National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa (NMSAS) Volunteer of the Year.
 
According to the NMSAS, Jennings “actively led, participated in, and executed logistics coordination for all Swains Island expeditions in 2011 and 2013”.

The 17th Annual Steinlager I’a Lapo’a Tournament in American Samoa came to a close this past Saturday evening at Tisa’s Barefoot Bar in Alega, with an elegant evening of awards, food and entertainment – it was the first time that the tournament awards ceremony was hosted at Tisa’s, which has been a sponsor of the annual event every year.
 
Samoa News spoke to the tournament’s chairman, Peter Crispin, who explained that the winners of this year’s tournament aren’t new to the championship title here in American Samoa.
