Boy’s volleyball was introduced for the first time in Samoa Bowl IX, with California and American Samoa fielding the only teams. Wedged in between the high powered girl’s volleyball matches that saw Hawaii, California and American Samoa battle it out for three days, boy’s volleyball delivered the same intensity on the same days — with a different result.

The championship game for the boys brought victory and the Kava Bowl to American Samoa, while for the girls — the Kava Bowl went to the California girls for the second straight year, with American Samoa taking 2nd place.

Congratulations to all the teams that played, with the volleyball competition embodying what the annual bowl event brings to our community, as well as the participants, both off-island and local. Malo le taumafai! Malo le tau!

Sponsored by American Samoa National Olympic Committee and the Samoa Bowl Committee, a series of snapshots of the Samoa Bowl IX events and personalities that are adding to this year’s Samoa Bowl tattoo —a ‘ta’ that merges the Samoan culture with the athletic talent of our Samoan youth — giving us all a chance to experience the uniqueness of our heritage through Samoa Bowl IX —Back to the Roots.
