Shady talo(re)sellers at the Fugalei market maybe causing consumers problems but it apparently is not a cause for concern for some farmers. Bundles of 10 medium sized talo used to sell for $20, now you only get “four or five” according to some consumers.

And consumers are pointing the finger at shady resellers going out to villages and buying talo then reselling them at the Savalalo market and roadside stalls at “ridiculous prices”.

Savaia, Lefaga village mayor,Fui Pii Lelua, yesterday said he understands that some of the people buying from the village are trading those same talo in town but it doesn’t worry them.

“It’s not a concern for us because we are still earning money from selling it to them. It saves us time and petrol to sell it in town.”

Fui said these buyers who usually buy talo worth $600 at a time are restaurant owners from Apia and others “who send them to Pago Pago.”
