Parents happy with Ocean Heroes program
The ‘Bruckner Chase Toa o’le Tai’ (Ocean Heroes) program, kicked off at the beginning of January 2012, with SHS as the pilot school for this first Ocean Swimming/Ocean Science PE class that teaches not just ocean swimming, but also ocean science, in order to increase student’s health, safety and knowledge of the ocean. It appears to have been received with a warm welcome, as told to Samoa News by some of the parents of SHS students who are currently enrolled in the program.
“It’s about time that someone thought of doing something like this. These kids play in the water every day and do not know how to swim. This class teaches the students proper swimming techniques and also teaches them about the ocean,” said a parent with a daughter in the PE class.
“I wish they had something like this when I was in school. This is great,” said a mother of another PE student.
