Iuli appointed on OFC Executive Board
FFAS President Iuli Alex Godinet has been appointed by the OFC Executive Committee to sit on its eight-member board. The appointment was confirmed in a letter from OFC President David Chung to Iuli. Chung is also a FIFA Vice-President.
"We are pleased to confirm the decision of the OFC Executive Committee on 10 November 2011 of your appointment as a Member of the OFC Executive Committee from 10 November 2011 and for the remainder of the term until 2015," wrote Chung in his congratulatory letter.
"This appointment is in recognition of the good work you have done in your capacity as observer on the Executive Committee and are doing for the Football Federation American Samoa," Chung added. "...The (OFC) Executive Committee members join me in congratulating you to your new position."
Iuli is only the third leader of an American Samoa governing body of soccer to hold a seat on the OFC board that is, according to the www.oceaniafootball.com website, "is responsible for the implementing OFC statutes and decisions of the OFC Congress."
"I am extremely humbled and also feel privileged to be invited to join this board," Iuli said. "I thank Mr. Chung and all the OFC Executive members in placing their trust in me to fill this position."
"Iuli deserves this appointment for his leadership of our association," said FFAS CEO Tavita Taumua. "My staff and I want to thank OFC for the appointment of Iuli on their board."
Besides being a member of the OFC executive, Iuli is also on the FIFA Standing Committee for Member Associations. FFAS, on numerous occasions by FIFA and OFC representatives, has been called a model association through the reflection of its financial and organizational reports. Iuli's appointment to this committee is a reflection of that leadership that has guided FFAS to such stature within FIFA and OFC.
On a final note, Chung also touched on American Samoa's recent success in winning its first ever FIFA World Cup qualifying game.
"I also congratulate you on your recent win against Tonga and other good performances in the FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament in Samoa which is another milestone in your leadership in American Samoa," Chung pointed out. "I look forward to continue working with you to develop football in American Samoa and the Pacific."
