Federal travel alert for South Pacific cyclone season
In a recent “travel alert”, the U.S. State Department alerted U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to the South Pacific region about the threat of tropical cyclones affecting the area, saying that the cyclone season runs from Nov.1, 2011 to Apr. 30, 2012.
The federal agency says U.S. citizens living in or traveling to the region should monitor local weather reports and take other appropriate action as needed.
The travel alert covers island nations and Pacific territories such as Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, and French Polynesia. U.S. citizens needing additional information should check with the State Department’s travel section at: http://www.state.gov
