Family of man axed in Samoa accepts ifoga
A traditional apology (ifoga) was presented to the family of a man who was axed to death, Fiti Olomaalii Taope. The incident occurred last Wednesday at Malie. Mayor of Malie, Si’a Mano’o, told Sunday Samoan that they only knew about the incident yesterday morning.
A village meeting was called. “We then presented the ifoga yesterday morning, and it was accepted by the deceased’s family at Vailoa,” Si’a said. During the six hour meeting, Si’a confirmed that a decision was made that the village would forgive the family of the alleged murderer.
The matai of that family, Fa’amau Faiga was however, fined.
