Divers inspect and clean up underwater at StarKist
One of the most dangerous jobs on island, saw highly skilled and certified diving crew members from Seattle Washington arrive in the territory - it's a StarKist Samoa project. It requires diving to 185 feet underwater, to inspect, manage, and clean up the cannery's underwater foundation - those docks don't float and neither do the buildings.
The divers are (left to right) Dave Clearly, Carl Toms, Brent McDaniel, Marty Edwards, and pictured are also Captain Kurt Hagedorn who managed their boat, and security Hyman Vaimaona. According to Clearly, this is their seventh trip to American Samoa to conduct this project, and they have been on island for 9 days. The crew will be leaving next week.

![On Monday afternoon, Jan. 14, specialized swimming equipment was donated to the American Samoa Aquatics Agency (ASAA). The donation came from Ralph S. Howard of Cameron, North Carolina who is a frequent visitor to the territory. The equipment will be used for the Ocean Science/Ocean Swimming class of Samoana High School and for the free summer swimming lessons held by ASAA.
