ASHSAA names football MVPs
Faga’itua Vikings Varsity football players, Defensive Tackle Vincent Taala and Quarterback, Ricardo Gonzales were awarded Most Valuable Players (MVP) trophies by the American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA).
Taala earned the ASHSAA MVP Defensive Player of the Year award, while Gonzales not only earned ASHSAA All Around MVP of the Year award, he also earned the MVP for the ASHSAA football 2011- 12 championship game, which the Faga’itua Vikings won in December of last year, to take the ASHSAA football championship title.
Both of these players were also part of the Samoa Bowl’s IX Team American Samoa, when they defeated Team Hawaii, in a game that took American Samoa ‘two overtime’ periods to secure the victory. At the end of this classic battle, Gonzales was awarded the game’s MVP.
These ‘Gridiron Gladiators’ stated that it was a great honor to be awarded these MVP awards and thanked everyone who helped them on their journey to earn these awards. The mothers of both these MVPs, Joy Taala and Eve Gonzales, said they were very proud of their sons.
