It is MUCH easier to repeal and Recall the governor out of office than to try and deal with the ASMCA which is NOT the Y.M.C.A.

  • With no cash infusion, LBJ set to lay off 200 workers   2 years 32 weeks ago

No one ever said LIFE would be fair, I'm sure that's what alot of these laid-off employees are saying. But the truth hurts...Money has always been an issue in Samoa, in some or if not in all Departments of the goverment.
Employees being laid-off shows how management in LBJ are not right for the job. They simply don't know how to manage the hospital, and therefore resulting in jeopardizing the lively hoods of alot of employees, that all they do is make sure they report to work on time and make sure their job gets done.
You're all right IT'S NOT FAIR...I feel for your situation, but maybe the FONO should allow the LBJ management team, get themselves out of this hole, because everytime they are bailed out of a situation, it just gets worse.

  • With no cash infusion, LBJ set to lay off 200 workers   2 years 32 weeks ago

Taotasi: You & the majority of Samoa have been living in Disney Town far too long. If you ever thought that the plague of “unemployment” distinguishes between one family’s hardships and another’s….you all have been deceived.
Being laid-off and unemployed due to financial hardships of a company have long been visible in the nation, and only NOW, while the rest of the nation is picking up the pieces and slowly creating jobs, you are aware of this?!
The positive to this: Everyone will have their eyes on change in the government. Sometimes, we need to experience hardships FIRST HAND, before we kick ourselves in the fatto@$$ and do something.
Also, it’s an opportunity for LBJ to clean house. There have been many employees that have lost their “heart for the people” after being there for sooo long, and have become callous/mean/grumpy.
When you lose something, it helps remind you to be grateful, appreciative and kind towards others. It reminds you of why you got into the healthcare business in the first place.

  • Gov makes good on threat; moves to abolish Hospital Authority   2 years 32 weeks ago

I thought when the tuff gets going it does, but I guess its doesnt. Samoans are built tuff, strong, humble, and especially happy people, but I guess its not.
All I read is mad here and mad there. Do something about it, I plow my fields and grow more bananas and taros in a situation like this. It seems like everyone wanting something for nothing. I can understand people losing jobs, is that the only thing you can do while your down there, is it too much pride?, but get this..."what comes before pride?"..let the dude finish what he started, give him a break, after all hes the govanah.
Watch and learn, and you decide what to keep and what to throw away. Lesson learn for the new people running. Take a lot of notes and all the good stuff from this, the bad only makes it worse, good luck in the future.

With the increase of the hospital bill is really effecting the people of American Samoa. Our people, your people, your loved ones, the very one's that put you governor on that seat. The very one's that vote with hope and confidence that something good is going to happen to this government. It is sad that we're all effected due to your responsibility to CARE and AWARE of such situation.
Second, with the FURLOUGH of LBJ that was taken place yesterday, cries.... it is so SAD, HURT to see all these people of American Samoa walk out from the managers office crying. Fai mai le tasi alaga upu a samoa, "TE'I LAVA MU LE NOFOAGA, E LE'I FAI MISA".
The poor employees of LBJ is PENALIZED Due to who's CALL. Dont you feel responsible for this???? Ouke ofo, liuliu le tofa ma fa'au'utaga po o le a le mea e tatau ona fai. Hopefully, you will not taste

  • American Samoa politician says girl died for lacking US$20   2 years 32 weeks ago

"Dude" you are so wrong! If he was not a good warrant officer he wouldn't have made it to CW5 now would he? He obviously has the courage to lay his frock down and come out to run for public office and to address issues like LBJ.
Let's see, if this tactic of his would annihilate his force, what will taking resources away (ie. money) do to the force or will there be a force to begin with?
He is promoting himself as someone who cares about issues like these and will make the necessary changes...theres nothing smear about that.

  • American Samoa politician says girl died for lacking US$20   2 years 32 weeks ago

Are you really proclaiming to be a professional and then speak in that manner? From what Im reading about your post, you could not see compassion if it hit you upside the head!
He didnt call you names, although I have a few of them running in my head right now, so who's making blatant lies now? Save is merely wanting to change proceedures in the hospital, how is that bashing ER and lumping them together? And please, dont say this story is a blatant lie, just because you haven't heard about it... because obviously you have not done your research either!
Save is a man of honor, compassion and most of all... he is a man of courage to step up from amongst the people to try and take a stand for the people.
What are you talking about 'false self righteousness' since when is being a veteran of the US Army for over 30 years and using his medical benefits become "showing off". So let me ask what have you done lately for our people to be so condescending of this man?

  • Op Ed: Who is looking out for the children?   2 years 32 weeks ago

Uh oh…it’s the attack of the illiterate goon!! Why on earth would you dare voice your silly opinion of someone not doing anything, when you yourself are doing the exact thing you speak of?!
Ipu is a remarkable voice for those who have no voice. Speaking up for the abused/violated/hurt/broken is what she has successfully done, which is of great importance to myself, as well as those who I’ve just written about.
She is making the issues that have been swept under the rug for many years, brought to light. She is making a difference by bringing justice for the silent and hurt people.
In actuality, the only person who looks “dumb” here is YOU, for voicing your pathetic view on someone helping American Samoa. Instead of being jealous of someone who is working to help the people of American Samoa, why don’t you get rid of yourself & your terrible grammar on this forum?!
    Thx!

  • Gov makes good on threat; moves to abolish Hospital Authority   2 years 32 weeks ago

I am so sick and tired of people banging on the Governor, hello? Do you not understand the reason he is questioning these palagis demands from the hospital. How did a 3 million shortfall turn into a 15 million request over a few months. I work at the hospital, and yes I did receive a letter that I'm being laid off. I am not happy. Truth of the matter is, lbj HR shouldve done a better job checking on the cfos background in her past two jobs within two years. When she left each hospital, they were deep in the hole, more than a million. Now, she hasnt been here a year, and what happens- LBJ does not have anymore money. Tell me you dont see a pattern.
But seriously, the Senate President needs to stop being bu$$hurt that Governor removed his girlfriend (former director of DOE) from her position. Don't act all surprised, everyone knew. Don't front. That's why the Senate is not approving the lady who is well qualified for the job, and has been doing a good job@DOE. This man is campaigning in the Senate to go against.
Come on Senators, its hard to respect you when you are a hypocrite yourself. The people are the ones suffering and so are the LBJ employees. Please do not think once that we feel for the people, we ourselves are getting the heat.
Going back to the Governor, he dont have a mansion in Hawaii nor own a boat.
I love how one start a rumor and then by the time it gets to the 10000th ifa-person, the rumor has been over exaggerated that you are not sure who its talking about. lol. smdh.
Wake up Fono and please pass a long term solution to the hospitals woes. The Governor, how come the other CEOs and CFOs manager to operate even with shortage of LOCAL/SUPPLEMENT from the Government. They knew the funds are not guaranteed, it depends on the revenue collected so really, they cant forecast the budget and include this monies in it.
Oh, and did you guys know that the DRUNKEN lawyer/attorney for LBJ gets paid 90+ a year for doing what, NOTHING. Marinate on that readers.

  • Op Ed: Who is looking out for the children?   2 years 32 weeks ago

My hat off to Ipu Avegalio Lefiti for her hard work in writing numerous letters to the editor about children's sexual abuse etc. It's fine and dandy to read about the problem, but I am tired of reading about this repeated ugly problem in the newspaper...it's high time to talk about the solution to the problem. One solution I think of is publicising the names of those offenders in the newspaper, maybe that will make the ones who are doing it but are "not reported and not caught yet" to stop what they are doing.
Also I believed these young girls' parents should be given a fine for "parental neglect" and also the young girls be given a fine for "provoking the offenders" or "leading on the offenders".
I found out that young girls are the ones being cheeky with the opposite sex. They watched dirty magazines and dirty dvd at very young age. I know this as a teacher of Level 6 and Level 7 students. I educate these young girls by being blunt and telling them straight what will happen to them. If they don't change their ways, they will get pregnant and be caring for a baby while still young instead of going off to college to get a college degree or join the military to help her with her future.
These blunt and bold advice to these girls make them think twice. Also I talked to the boys to do their duties as a brother, if they see their sisters being outside the house at the dark or at a place they are not suppose to be, they need to exercise their duties as the body guard to their sisters, rough them up and make her scared that she's been watched.
These times are changing, before young girls are being watched by parents, and parents tell the sons to watch their sisters, but nowadays, parents are at bingo halls and boys are out doing their own thing and the sisters are being cheeky and caused them to get in trouble.
I know from experience with my own daughter, I kept an eye on her and tell her everything about sex and boys and men. She still ended up being pregnant because she wanted to get pregnant regardless of being obedient to her parents. She lied about where she had been and what she had done.
So that's my take on that issue. Thank you.

  • Public complains loudly at LBJ — about new fees, effective Monday morning   2 years 32 weeks ago

Mose is sad that it has come to this point, BUT...this is an opportunity that is shedding away skin and revealing true colors. It is an opportunity to clean house of the excesses and for the incompetent leaders, and for the rest of us to wake up and understand that our health is our responsibility, that we need to support our only Hospital and not abuse it's services.
If you are sick because you know what's bad for your health but continue to do it, then in my book, you are also the blame for this collapse. There is a point where no matter how hard you squeeze the pegu, no more pe'epe'e will come out of it. Yes you can water it, but then only water will come out.
    Clean house CEO, clean house.

  • Op-Ed: Health Care System: ‘Free’ Ideology vs Sobering Reality   2 years 32 weeks ago

Thank you for your research and this bit of hospital history Lafaele.
The point is well taken that DOI and Congress really have been moving AS to get this LBJ hospital more self-sufficient by giving us less and less federal funding. And that is also the new reality for all federal progras across the USA.
Which is why it is crazy to keep this free medical care law and our leaders perpetuating this falsity that our people can have free medical care.
It is a sobering reminder that our leaders should have amended the healthcare law from "free" to "affordable" healthcare long time ago and then legislate a long term solution to make it affordable. They should have checked out some kind of subsidized insurance for the peope.
Instead, they wanted to play a game with the people that they are "saviors" every year with emergency infusions. Now when their is not enough $$ to make emergency infusions? Is it any wonder fees have been raised or that LBJ is in a financial crisis?
We don't have enough TOA people in government and real thinkers in leadership to help steer our govt.
    Well written article.

  • Gov makes good on threat; moves to abolish Hospital Authority   2 years 32 weeks ago

I agree with your comments that we all need to be responsible for our health. I am guilty of that. I now live in California and my son who is attending college in California got sick last week. He was covered under HMSA student plan when he attended UH last year which is a requirement. Of course we paid an annual premium of about $2,000.00 which partially cover some his medical expenses if in case he needs medical attention but we still pay some out of pocket. When he became ill in California I used this medical insurance, little to my knowledge when I contacted HMSA to inform them of my son's ER visit, they told me that his plan only covers if he is a UH student which he is no longer now. So I went ahead and search for another medical insurance in California and believe me there are so many... my problem is most of these major companies denied him due to his preexisting medical condition.
My son is overweight and was diagnosed with gout. I am still now searching for insurance that will accept him with his conditions... and believe me it is difficult. Sooo..what I am saying is I have a son that I believe I failed to assure he is healthy by allowing him to become overweight since his young age and is now suffering the consequences. Well we are both working now with his weight management and trying to stay healthy.
If people in Samoa are now crying because they cannot pay the increase fee hikes at the hospital..try living in a place where the first question they ask you is "do you have insurance?" "How do you plan to pay?" We are so spoiled with getting things free that we take things for granted and neglect to take care for ourselves.
You are so right... It cost money to run a hospital. Medicine is very expensive. I had to fork out of my pocket $150.00 for my son's one prescription medicine for his gout because I am still seeking a new insurance meanwhile.( my bad for not knowing coming from an island where I only needed to pay $10.00 before).
I am now waiting for the ER visit statement to see how much this is going to cost us.
    Bottom line..PREVENTION a lot cheaper!

  • Gov makes good on threat; moves to abolish Hospital Authority   2 years 32 weeks ago

If we don't straighten this mess up with the increased rates and people start to die, um, there may be some truth to what Save was saying after all....not a voter but I'm just saying.

  • American Samoa politician says girl died for lacking US$20   2 years 32 weeks ago

I think you may want to revisit Talanei.com and listen to what he actually said. It'll answer all your questions. You can't hear parts of what was said and then begin to ask questions. That's why you say there's something fishy..sheesh...either that or you haven't showered:).

  • American Samoa politician says girl died for lacking US$20   2 years 32 weeks ago

Blatant lie? You ought to check your sources. Just because some say 'it ain't so' and you don't (obviously) have any clue about it....does it mean that its a lie?

Furthermore, Save didn't 'bash everyone that works in ER'. In your frustration, you're adding to the story. Calling you names? Never came out of his mouth. You are beginning to babble and that's how gossip spreads.
Listen, I don't speak for Save, but I do commend you all for your hard work and dedication. You folks may not be the best in the business but you guys, most of you anyway, have a really good heart. You all work hard and try your best.
Now, to what Save said, I think you missed the whole point of his story. His story was based off of the fact that we are turning people away because they don't have the money to pay for services, which is what is happening right now.
He wasn't attacking ER staff at all; it was the procedure/process that he was making a stand against. I'm sure you're hearing it now (if you are an LBJ worker), the complaints about not being able to afford to pay for services. It's a problem that we all have to come to a consensus with, and deal with. That's what Save is trying to fight, not you, the ER staff, or the LBJ staff.
We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us in this time of crisis, and show us the path we must take. We pray that God will find favor on His people and return them to a state of harmony. May He continue to bless the hearts of those that work at LBJ; many times they go unnoticed, but may God pour out a blessing upon them and their families for their dedication and committment to the people of American Samoa. Amen

I see a lot of people fustrated and angry at this dude, what can he do?
I don't know, but he is trying to explain everything and noone is listening, yes he had some wrong doing before, but this is the time where we samoans suppose to get together as a family and try to help out our failing brother, sister,or whatever it is,now is the time.
We go to church every sunday and what? Do we even pray the right way? or we just say the words and don't mean it? Let me help you, God is listening. And the more hate we stir for this dude He will never hear your prayers. I alone is a firm believer.
My crops are water, and bananas are rich with vatimins and the taros are well taking care of. And never forget tax is a must, I live off the land like they say in the mainland but I sell my crops in return its all cash. And I pay my tax first, the ten percent that suppose to go to the church I eliminated from my book.
I give them banana instead, because too much complaining and thats what they get for complaining, just banana and taro,..
This is not the solution when we hate the man, hate his position. now is the time, he needs help but noone is offering, I'm helping paying his tax, thats all I can offer, I don't have the qualification to run for govanah, I'm a farmer.

    farmerboy.
