411th receives Family Readiness Group award

Unit and Family Readiness Group leaders of the Forward Support Company, 411th Engineer Battalion proudly display the 9th Mission Support Command 2011 award for the Most Improved FRG, Aug. 12, here at Fort Shafter Flats.



Solaita promoted to Captain

1st LT. Laupati Solaita was promoted to Captain in the United States Army at Camp Parks in Dublin, California, this past Saturday, August 13, 2011. Due to the untimely passing of his father Peni Ben Solaita in January of this year, Laupati's inlaw's pinned his Captain's Rank.



Sgt. Eka re-enlists

Sgt. Lance E. Eka with his wife, Marie, and Capt. Maryjane Porter, following Sgt. Eka's re-enlistment ceremony recently at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Tafuna, American Samoa.

Eka, a combat veteran and mechanic with the Forward Support Company, 411th Engineer Battalion, joined the military in 2001 and looks forward to another six years of Army Strong commitment with the Pride of the Pacific.

Mrs. Eka was also recognized and received a Certificate of Appreciation for her continued support of her husband's unit missions and career plans.



CSM Tobin named Senior Enlisted Advisor for CAAT Afghanistan

Command Sergeant Major Charles Tobin will be relinquishing his post at Ft. Bragg, N.C. as the 528th Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne) Command Sergeant Major at the end of the month as he prepares to take over new duties in Afghanistan. He has been named the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Counterinsurgency Advisory and Assistance Team (CAAT) throughout Afghanistan.



Aua Staff Sergeant serving in Kabul

A shout out to everyone in American Samoa and to Samoans around the world from SSG Dean Liufau of Aua, who is currently serving in Kabul, Afghanistan with the International Security Assistance Forces Joint Command.

The photo was taken yesterday, after an assassin struck at the heart of President Hamid Karzai's political machine in southern Afghanistan, killing the mayor of Kandahar with an exploding turban and deepening a power vacuum in the Taliban's main stronghold.

Samoa native returns stateside after deployment to Iraq Tuesday

of the U.S. Army Reserve's 9th Mission Support Command, to provide critical public affairs support for the 1st Infantry Division and the 36th Infantry Division in Basra.



West Point grad from Nu'uuli deploys to Iraq

Second Lieutenant Gibson Sale, Jr. deployed to Iraq on July 8, 2011. The 2005 Samoana grad is also a West Point graduate, class of 2010. 2Lt Sale is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and is with the A Troop, 1st SQDN - 7th CAV, 1st Calvary Division. He is the son of Gibson Sr. and Virginia Sale of Nu'uuli.

Many of his West Point brothers that graduated with him have deployed to the Middle East on different days but within weeks of each other.
