Police: Faleatiu postmortem completed

The postmortem of a man killed during the gun battle between the Police and a family at Faleatiu has been completed. The operation was conducted last
at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital by a visiting pathologist.

Assistant Police Commissioner, Le’aupepe Fatu Pula said the results have been sent to New Zealand.

The postmortem was to identify which bullet killed Samitoto Lapi, a father of seven.

The Police want to know if he died from a Police gunshot or one from their family’s weapons.

AYFS All Stars continue to raise funds

The American Youth Football of Samoa (AYFS) program, which is proudly under the direction of president Shiloh Pritchard, has been working and preparing very hard for their upcoming trip to the state of Hawaii.

The AYFS program which is in its third year of competition has managed to put together an All Star team for the first time that will travel off island to compete against three of Hawaii’s top teams in the same age group category.



ASCC graduation historic, 2 Bachelors Degrees awarded

It was history in the making when the American Samoa Community College handed out its first two Bachelor of Education degrees to Selutoga Me’i Fuiava and Tasia Misipati Luafalealo Kurene Talamoni during the ASCC 56th Commencement Ceremony, held last Friday for 128 graduating students.

The graduation ceremony, held at the ASCC gymnasium, was packed with family and friends. ASCC Vice President of Administration and Finance Mikaele Etuale was the Master of Ceremony, and the Invocation was given by Reverend Dr Elia Titimaea Ta’ase.



Nu'uuli VocTech hosts forum for 2012 candidates

Teams running for the position of Governor and Lt. Governor were present yesterday at the candidates forum held at the Gov. H. Rex Lee Auditorium, hosted by the students of Nu’uuli VocTech High School Senior Class and National Technical Honor Society.

The forum included a session with candidates running in the 2012 election for Congressional Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, which took place after the gubernatorial session.

LBJ unveils newest hospital equipment, a hyperbaric chamber

A milestone was marked for American Samoa with the unveiling of a hyperbaric chamber at the LBJ Tropical Medical Center yesterday morning. According to Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary (FBNMS), this was a project that has long been on the drawing board and was led by efforts of Governor Togiola Tulafono’s administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary and LBJ’s Board and Management.

PATI LEPOU

One of the four inmates who escaped from the Tafuna Correctional Facility early in 2010 and allegedly assaulted an ANZ bank security guard started his jury selection yesterday. Pati Lepou who faces several felony charges entered the courtroom yesterday morning with his attorney Mark Ude.

Lepou is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and escape from confinement.

Assistant Attorney General Cecilia Reyna who is the prosecutor for this case believes that they will proceed with opening arguments today.



US Army more selective on recruits, re-enlistments

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Uncle Sam may not want you after all.

In sharp contrast to the peak years of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the Army last year took in no recruits with misconduct convictions or drug or alcohol issues, according to internal documents obtained by The Associated Press. And soldiers already serving on active duty now must meet tougher standards to stay on for further tours in uniform.

The Army is also spending hundreds of thousands of dollars less in bonuses to attract recruits or entice soldiers to remain.
