Fifty-two people were part of a first event of its kind last Saturday May 19, at Utulei Beach Park. The Toa o le Tai Ocean Heroes, Lifeguard Competition, a part of the Bruckner Chase Toa o le Tai Ocean Heroes Youth Program, had old and young alike, with the youngest being 12 years old, competing in lifeguard events.

The choir concert fundraiser, last Saturday at Samoana High School gymnasium, continues fund riasing efforts for the American Samoa All Star Football Team.  Our team will be playing in the 2012 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Under 19 World Football Championships with seven other counties from June 30-July 7, 2012 at Burger Stadium, in Austin, Texas.

Gov. Togiola Tulafono says House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale will represent the government and the people of American Samoa at this week’s graduation for the local group who are in Guam training for employment.

Perhaps the greatest benefit for American Samoa becoming a full member of the International Rugby Board, is the opportunity to realize a dream —  to someday compete in the World Cup.

Gov. Togiola Tulafono, speaking on his weekend radio program, says with the American Samoa Rugby Union now a full member of the governing body of world rugby, the territory can now work hard to vie for a spot in the World Cup.

From my experience, politicians usually fail to deliver on many of their campaign promises, and this is evident here in American Samoa also. For this campaign season, I decided to study the new menu of promises offered by all of the gubernatorial candidates through their published platforms. I chose to bypass the team that is in administration leadership now, because regardless of the promises, we already know what they can do. The A-Team of this group have been there for almost 16 years, and we see what we have now. Do you think the B-Team will be better? 

Tuilua’ai Fa’amausili is scheduled to make her initial appearance in the District Court this morning on allegations of writing bad checks and stealing.

Tuilua’ai was apprehended with an arrest warrant by detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Department of Public Safety last Friday. She has been in jail since Friday with bail set at $20,000.

A former member of the Pago Pago Yacht Club (PPYC) Board is facing embezzlement and stealing charges on allegations that she misappropriated funds belonging to the American Samoa Sailing Association (ASSA) without proper authorization.

Marie Lorraine Reid also known as Lola Reid is scheduled to make her initial appearance in the District Court this morning.

Reid was arrested Friday afternoon by detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division with the Department of Public Safety and was held at TCF on bail of $5,000.

LOGOPATI FA’AMAUSILI AND GAFATASI TAVEUVEU

The High Court has accepted the plea agreement in the government’s case against Logopati Fa’amausili, but rejected a provision of the plea for co-defendant Gafatasi Taveuveu, and Chief Justice Michael Kruse has ordered all parties to be back in court this Friday.

The 2012 9th Annual Miss Flowers pageant was held on Saturday, before a SRO crowd, at the Tradewinds Hotel. It is presented by Penina Tausala Dance Productions.

This year’s pageant’s theme was “Just My Imagination” and showcased the ‘most unique fashion in floral designs’. The 2012- 13 Miss Flowers is Tai Queen, Ms Avapui - sponsored by Bertah & Don/ Celia & Pa’i.  
 

Teejaye Nicholas McMoore Maifea known as "Sammy" is the eldest son of Natasha McMoore of Leloaloa/Utulei and Sefulu Maifea of Nu'uuli. He is the first grandchild of our clans to graduate from College and earned his AA in Business Administration from Ventura College in Oxnard, CA.  He will continue his studies at Eastern New Mexico University this fall.
