BROTHERS RELEASED FROM JAIL

The High Court has released two brothers from jail after serving 24 months, on charges of breaking into an A’asu home and removing an Xbox, games, TV, one laptop and an amplifier, in 2008. Filautoa Fuiono and Niko Fuiono are convicted of second-degree burglary and stealing. The brothers apologized to the court and assured the judges that they are remorseful of their actions. They pleaded with the court to release them from jail so they can find jobs to care for their wives, children and especially their parents.

The Pap test, also known as the Pap smear, checks for changes in the cells of your cervix.  The cervix is the lower part of the womb or uterus.  The Pap test detects infection and unhealthy cells which may develop into cervical cancer.

In this way a Pap test can save your life.  You do not have to be sexually active to develop cervical cancer.  It could happen for other reasons including family history of cancer (genetics), effects of pollution (smoke, toxins), overweight or obesity.



National Park of American Samoa completes two successful forest projects

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa —The National Park of American Samoa has successfully completed two projects to help protect the health of the Samoan rainforest. These projects were established through two important partnerships in environmental stewardship with local groups.

The first project is the result of a partnership with the Coral Reef Advisory Group (CRAG) and the villages of Matu’u and Faganeanea. The national park has removed all invasive tamaligi trees from the native Samoan rainforest within the park.



TAFUNA HIGH SCHOOL HONORS AND REMEMBERS ONE OF ITS OWN

Tafuna High School took time out Friday from their normal routine, to pay final respects to one of their own, a 15 year old fellow student, a sophmore, Dominic Andrew Tautunuafatasi, who passed away.

According to the memorial program, Dominic passed away at the LBJ Hospital from complications caused by dengue, leptospirosis and pneumonia. Yesterday morning, the Tafuna High School gymnasium was filled with high school students, staff, administration, friends and family members, as they bid farewell to Dominic.

Gov. Togiola Tulafono says training is ongoing for stores and their employees to ensure complete compliance with local laws dealing with underage drinking as more and more vendors are being cited for selling beer to persons under the age of 21.

American Samoa Community College (ASCC) students Pearl Sheck, Dona Maifala and Tofi Coffin received Certified Student Leader credentials during the recent National Center for Student Leadership (NCSL) Conference in Boston, MA. They were among the 95 students that participated in the Certified Student Leader (CSL) Program, an intensive addition to the regular conference activities.



String of attacks rock Afghan capital, provinces

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- Taliban insurgents struck the heart of the Afghan capital and three eastern cities Sunday, firing automatic weapons and grenades at embassies, government buildings and NATO bases as they launched the spring fighting season with the boldest and most complex assault in years.

The multi-pronged attacks show the Taliban and their allies are far from beaten and underscored the security challenge facing government forces as U.S. and NATO forces draw down. The majority of international combat troops are scheduled to leave by the end of 2014.
