The Land and Titles Division of the High Court has ruled that Senator Fuata Dr I’atala may continue with his mother's burial, which is planned for today at the Mataava land in Amouli. The ruling came after a three day hearing, which started on Tuesday, for a temporary restraining order, banning the Fuata family from further construction of a grave in a cemetery, which the Utu clan claims, belong to their family.

The U.S. National Marine Fishery Service (NMFS) is now accepting applications for Class A (vessels up to 40’ long) and Class D (vessels 70’ long ) for the American Samoa longline permits with deadline set for June 22.

NMFS Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO) spokesman Walter Ikehara told Samoa News this week that four Class A permits and two Class D permits are available for re-issuance.

District Court Judge John Ward has denied a motion for a new trial on the government’s case against a woman who was recently convicted by a jury for assaulting an elderly man. Karenmary Melendez’s lawyer Assistant Public Defender  Donna Clement, asked the court for a new trial, stating the government’s evidence was insufficient and the court had allowed an improper character, stating the defendant had struck the complaining witness’s dog, on his property.

It’s Akule (mackerel) season in Leone. It’s been 20 years since the Akule were last seen in abundance in the bay of the village of Leone — although last year March some were seen, but not many.

In January 2012 the Akule came back in large numbers, and the villagers are enjoying the plentiful harvest of the Akule everyday, said Maiava Fidelas Leota, a Leone matai.

Maiava told Samoa News the last time they had Akule swim right on to their beach was in 1982 — however, after that, the Akule disappeared and did not return until recently.

Team American Samoa’s Head Coach is looking for 39 committed and dedicated team players for their All Star Team that will play against the best USA team in the Under 19 World Cup of Football, in Austin, Texas, this June.

All Star Team Head Coach Sua’ese Pooch Ta’ase told Samoa News, when asked if the same team would compete in Texas, "the positions are there, it’s the player's job not to lose it."
