This past week has seen the Fono move quickly to pass appropriation bills funding LBJ Medical Center's operations before LBJ's new fee hikes go into effect on Monday.

The Trial Division of the high court has dismissed a lawsuit against late Police Lt Liusila Brown, the Department of Public Safety and the American Samoa Government. The 12 page ruling was issued last week, granting the government’s request to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Setefano Falaniko on October 16, 2000. 

When Marist Pago announced earlier last month its intention to run the territorial 2012 Flag Day International Sevens competition, it did so without clearing the matter with the American Samoa Rugby Union.  Union president Aumoeualogo Te’o Fuavai was not informed and threatened to prevent Marist Pago from holding the event.

In fact, Magele said sex education has always been embedded in government schools teachings but “was never taught in isolation”.
“Aspects of it (sexuality) have always been there in the curriculum called Gender Education under Health and Physical Education,” the Minister said.

WOMAN CONVICTED OF ASSAULTING 86 YEAR OLD MAN

A jury of five women and two men found Karen Mary Melendez guilty of third degree assault. The assault charge stems from an incident which occurred last April, where Melendez is alleged to have assaulted an 86 year old man from Nu’uuli.

District Court Judge John Ward scheduled sentencing for the defendant on Monday.

Prosecuting for the government is Camille Philippe; while Assistant Public Defender Donna Clement represented Melendez in this matter.
