House lawmakers have voiced disappointment over the absence of main government witnesses to testify before a House committee regarding the Togiola Administration’s $8 million loan for the LBJ Medical Center. They have also requested an official letter of concern be sent to the governor’s office.

The loan from the ASG Employees Retirement Fund is to be repaid with a percentage of a hike in excise tax for alcohol, beer and tobacco; an increase in fees for business licenses and the new corporate tax.

Congressman Faleomavaega Eni has written to the Constitutional Accountability Center (CAC), a think tank group law firm based in Washington D.C., voicing his opposition to the group’s planned lawsuit in federal court  that would make the citizenship clause of the U.S. Constitution apply to persons born in American Samoa.

The evidence in cases which have already been prosecuted, and was ordered to be destroyed by the court, was officially disposed of by Court Marshals, with police officers present on Tuesday afternoon.

Held at Leone High School, home of the Lions, the tournament drew one of its bigger crowds yet of the season, as the numbers seem to be growing in support of the fledging sport in American Samoa — wrestling is after all one of oldest sports in the world.

The American Samoa Amateur Boxing Federation (ASABF) held a ‘President’s Day Boxing’ Tournament on Monday at the Department of Parks and Recreation compound in the Innouye Industrial Park in Tafuna, with six exciting matches and an exhibition match with American Samoa’s hard hitting Super Heavyweight Alapati Aasa.

While the jousting continues as who gets the hero’s credit for delaying Armageddon at LBJ, I was deeply disappointed at how misinformed some members of the public are about what created the financial crisis at the hospital in the first place.

A teacher with a private school who was placed on a five-week suspension after allegations that he inappropriately touched his female student on school grounds, is now back to work. This has made a few parents furious with the school. The allegations were made by the female student.
