THIEF PLACED ON PROBATION

Associate Justice Lyle L Richmond placed Kilisitina Seigafo on two years probation with the condition that she pay a fine of $250 and pay restitution to the victim.

Seigafo was charged in connection with stealing a business man’s ATM card. She was initially charged with felony stealing, however she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor stealing in a plea agreement with the government.

Two of the four men from the Nu’uuli Rugby team charged in connection with the assault of a referee last year have entered into a plea agreement with the government.

Iopu Siolo and Pelenato Puautolu entered guilty pleas, while cases for co-defendants Fuata’i Tago and Pene Wells were postponed.

The Department of Agriculture is proposing legislation that would again provide a government subsidy to assist local farmers with expenses associated with farming, says Agriculture director Lealao Melila Purcell.

Veteran farmer Taimane Johnson has been the outspoken voice for local farmers, calling on the government for the last couple of years to reinstate this subsidy program which helps  farmers purchase things such as fertilizer and small equipment to improve their plantations.

Congressman Faleomavaega Eni says he will continue to work with his Democratic colleagues in Congress to ensure that critical funding for American Samoa’s Medicaid program is not affected by Republican proposals to significantly reduce federal healthcare funding for the five U.S. Territories, according to a press release from his Washington, D.C. office yesterday, April 30th. 

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- President Barack Obama slipped into Afghanistan Tuesday night on the anniversary of the killing of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden and signed an agreement cementing U.S. commitment to the nation after American combat troops leave.

Alongside Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Obama declared, "Together, we're now committed to replacing war with peace."

SPAIN: Deep gloom.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Hundreds of activists across the U.S. joined the worldwide May Day protests on Tuesday, with Occupy Wall Street members in several cities leading demonstrations against major financial institutions.

In Oakland, Calif., stinging gas sent protesters fleeing a downtown intersection where they were demonstrating. It was unclear whether police fired the gas, but officers took four people into custody.
