Tulsa police: Shooting victims chosen at random

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Tulsa police say there was no connection between the suspects and victims in a series of shootings that terrorized the city's black community.

Police Chief Chuck Jordan said Sunday the victims "appeared to be totally random."

Three people were killed and two seriously wounded in the shootings early Friday. Jordan says the two who survived have been released from the hospital.

Police have said there is a connection between the shootings and the shooting of a suspect's father by a black man two years ago.



Mike Wallace, '60 Minutes' star interviewer, dies

(AP) —CBS newsman Mike Wallace, the dogged, merciless reporter and interviewer who took on politicians, celebrities and other public figures in a 60-year career highlighted by the on-air confrontations that helped make "60 Minutes" the most successful primetime television news program ever, has died. He was 93.

Wallace died Saturday night at a care facility in New Canaan, Connecticut, where he had lived in recent years, CBS spokesman Kevin Tedesco said.



Gov: Cigarette smuggling a serious problem in AmSam

Gov. Togiola Tulafono has confirmed publicly that the government is faced with a serious problem of people smuggling cigarettes into the territory to avoid paying excise taxes.

At least two House members argued last week that the government’s current proposal to hike the excise tax on beer, alcohol and tobacco to fund a $10 million appropriation bill for the LBJ Medical Center will only cause these products to be smuggled into the territory due to the high taxes.



Hawaii company wins permit for tuna farm

HONOLULU (AP) – A Honolulu-based company that wants to farm ahi in waters off the Big Island has received a federal permit.

Hawaii Oceanic Technology, Inc. said Thursday the state’s Department of Health has issued it a permit under a U.S.

Environmental Protection Agency program that regulates the discharge of pollutants into U.S. waters.

The company several years ago won approval from the state Board of Land and Natural Resources to use large underwater cages to grow the tuna about three miles off the coast of Kaiwahae.
