The Samoa Rugby Union’s chief executive officer, Su’a Peter Schuster will leave his job when his successor, Samoan lawyer, Fred Amoa takes over the affairs of the Manu Samoa team.

“It’s time for me to step aside and apply my knowledge and rugby experience somewhere else. I’m still young and still want to contribute to the development of rugby in Samoa. God has given me this talent and I will use it to further the careers of the many young players that have the potential to advance to the international level.”



U’una’i understaffed, unsophisticated “triage” center says Matau defense

Defense attorney for defendant Julie Matau has claimed that U’una’i Legal Service Corporation (ULSC) was a not a sophisticated organization set up to comply with federal reporting requirements, but instead was “operated largely as a triage center” whose board of directors ignored their duties several years ago.



Man accused of assault placed on probation, ordered to undergo counseling

Lilomaiava Sa’olotoga who struck another man with a beer bottle causing severe injuries, has been placed on probation for two years.

Sentencing for the defendant was handed down by Chief Justice Michael Kruse on Friday. Kruse was accompanied on the bench by Chief Associate Judge Logoai Siaki and Associate Judge Fa’amausili Pomele.



Court dismisses 2008 lawsuit against ASG citing subject matter jurisdiction

The Trial Division of the High Court has dismissed with prejudice a lawsuit —brought by a groundskeeping company, ‘S&A Company’ owned by Aperila Tuua — against the American Samoa Government, Department of Parks and Recreation and the Office of Property Management.

The lawsuit was filed in 2008, by the plaintiff through his lawyer, Sharron Rancourt who was later replaced by attorney Mark Ude.

Virtually every American will be affected by the outcome, due this summer in the heat of the election campaign.



Studies: Surgery can put diabetes into remission

CHICAGO (AP) -- New research gives clear proof that weight-loss surgery can reverse and possibly cure diabetes, and doctors say the operation should be offered sooner to more people with the disease - not just as a last resort.

The two studies, released on Monday, are the first to compare stomach-reducing operations to medicines alone for "diabesity" - Type 2 diabetes brought on by obesity. Millions of Americans have this and can't make enough insulin or use what they do make to process sugar from food.

Togiola Tulafono has written to Tonga’s Prime Minister, Lord Tu’ivakano, expressing deepest condolences from the people and government of American Samoa over the passing of King George Tupou V, who was remembered late yesterday during a church service organized by the territory’s Tongan community.



Special Session reconvenes today after immediate recess

Lawmakers reconvene this morning for day two of the Special Session of the 32nd Legislature after a two-week mid session recess — there is no word on whether the governor and the Fono met regarding the bills proposed for the special session or if he will address the Fono this morning.

The Fono convened on Mar.12 for the special session called by Gov. Togiola Tulafono to review and approve three issues, which are all funding measures for the LBJ Medical Center.
