E-5 John Iakopo Leasiolagi graduates from Special Operations Combat Medic course

Soldiers at Fort Bragg, North Carolina witnessed one of their own graduate from one of  the most difficult schools the Joint Special Operations Community has to offer.

HM2/E-5 John Iakopo Leasiolagi, a Navy Corpsman (medic) with 4-years in the Navy and stationed in Camp Lejeune, N.C., recently completed  the Special Operations Combat Medic (SOCM) course.

John was named the Honor Graduate of his class.  The 26 week class started out with over 100 candidates, but only 23 graduated.



Great Lakes names Idol winner, and what a prize she got!

Navy Seaman Tiana Lupematasila was cheered by fans at a Bulls-Lakers game recently after she was named the Great Lakes Idol winner.

The Great Lakes Naval Training Command, Morale, Welfare & Recreation program's singing competition held three rounds of auditions and performances before naming Tiana the winner.

"The next week, I found myself in uniform singing in the middle of a basketball court during a game between the Bulls and Lakers... and being cheered on by 23,000+ fans. It was an extraordinary experience."



Amy Glenister receives US Army commission

Amy Glenister Smith received her commission in the United States Army in a ceremony on December 10 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. She was pinned to the rank of second lieutenant by her father, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Taufaga'afa Lincoln Glenister, of Nu'uuli, brother Captain Ben Glenister, and grandmother Naijo (Nomura) Belford of Malaeloa.

Gadhafi forces hit oil facilities in central Libya

RAS LANOUF, Libya (AP) -- Forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi struck an oil pipeline and oil storage facility Wednesday, sending a giant yellow fireball into the sky as they pounded rebels with artillery and gunfire in at least two major cities. At least four people were killed in Wednesday's fighting, officials said. Gadhafi appeared to be keeping up the momentum he has seized in recent days in his fight against rebels trying to move on the capital, Tripoli, from territory they hold in eastern Libya.
