The Fono’s Information Technology (IT) building, which is geared towards moving the legislature “paperless”, was officially dedicated yesterday with several lawmakers in attendance including their special guest Governor-Elect Lolo Matalasi Moliga, the former Senate President.

House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale’s wife, Sakala Ale, was given the honor to cut the ribbon before a tour of the building began.

Faleomavaega drops bid for top Foreign Affairs spot

American Samoa delegate Eni Faleomavaega is abandoning his long-shot bid to become ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, leaving New York Congressman Eliot Engel poised to take the position.

Since delegates do not have voting privileges on the House floor, Faleomavaega acknowledged he would have a tough time gaining support for the post. Had he won, he would have been the first delegate to serve as a ranking member or chairman of a full committee.

ASHSAA Girl’s Varsity Volleyball Semi-Finals begin today

The Semi-Finals are set for today with top four teams in this year’s American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Varsity League.

Today, with a scheduled starting time of 4:30 p.m., the #1 seeded Tafuna Warriors will be taking on the #4 seeded defending ASHSAA girls Varsity volleyball champion the Samoana Sharks at Tafuna High School. In the other Semi-Final game today to be played at Leone High School, the home of the Lions, the #2 seeded Lions will host the #3 seeded Faga’itua Vikings.
