MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING MOM, SISTER AND UNCLE
 
Police arrested a man over the weekend from Nu’uuli on allegations that he assaulted his sister, and punched his mother and her brother during an altercation. The defendant is charged with Public Peace Disturbance and Third Degree Assault. However, the government intends to file additional charges in this case.
 

Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has increased the number of board members for the American Samoa TeleCommunications Authority (ASTCA) and given himself the authority to appoint the board chairman, in an executive order, dated May 6..
 
The executive order amends provisions of the 1998 order that sets up ASTCA as a semi autonomous agency from its previous status as the Office of Communication.
 

American Samoa Power Authority CEO Utu Abe Malae has considered the sewer line service for Fagatogo residents for inclusion in the EPA Upper Pago Pago Wastewater Collection System Extension Project for the upper Pago area.
 
Utu was responding to a longstanding sewer line service request that Fagatogo residents have been awaiting for a very long time, and which was addressed recently by Fagatogo faipule Maugaoali’i Leapai Sipa Anoa’i.
 

APIA, Samoa — It took the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) Caucus almost three hours to come up with a 10 to 9 votes for the Minister of Finance, Faumuina Tiatia Liuga to remain in Cabinet.

The meeting’s focus was on the petition by some Caucus MPs for the Minister to either “resign” or the Prime Minister to “sack” him.

However, “resign and sack” were never part of the discussion, according to one of the petition organizers MP Tu’u’u Anasi’i. Instead, the focus was on three options “reshuffle, terminate or remain (stay) in Cabinet.”

Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has reappointed Dr. David J. Herdrich to head the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office (ASHPO) and assigned ASHPO a new board.
 
Herdrich will serve as Historic Preservation Officer, as head of ASHPO. He has served for 20 years as a member of the office and most importantly for 16 years as deputy historic preservation officer under the former head of ASHPO, author John Enright.
 
 And for the past four years, he has served as the Historic Preservation Officer, said Lolo in his appointment memo.

The American Samoa Government's Coral Reef Advisory Group (CRAG), together with the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council (WESTPAC) and the University of Hawaii at Hilo are working collaboratively to seek out eligible students for the Marine Science Fellowship Scholarship.
 
Applications are currently being accepted and the closing date is June 17, 2013. The scholarship winner will be notified on July 10, 2013.
 

The recent Field Training Exercise (FTX) by ROTC classes at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) saw the main campus malae transformed into a military camp ground, as the cadets in the program practiced battlefield strategies and combat survival techniques.
 
This semester’s FTX had a special twist in that it included a Contract Ceremony for Cadet Raelynn Aliitasioaitulagi Tuilefano Mapu, an ASCC graduate currently in her third year of the Simultaneous Membership Program with the 411th Engineer Battalion at Fort Shafter Flats, Hawaii.
 

The summer is shaping up to be one with plenty of free sporting activities to choose from for the territory's youth, and hopefully this will keep them busy in a positive way while getting them into good physical shape during their summer vacation.
 

OBAMA PROMISES ACTION ON A TRIO OF CONTROVERSIES
 
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama tried to defuse a trio of controversies Thursday, pledging to work with Congress to ensure the IRS doesn't abuse its power, urging legislators to provide more money to strengthen security at U.S. diplomatic outposts and promising to seek "a balance" between national security and a need to protect freedom of the press.

Rounds 3 & 4 were held over the weekend with three teams remaining unbeaten so far in the 2013 FFAS 7-A-Side Tournament — No. 1 Tafuna Jets, No. 2 Black Roses and No. 3 Kiwi Soccers.
 
Tafuna holds the goals differential edge — 24 —while Black Roses need the second tiebreaker of goals scored (15-14) to edge Kiwi for second place as both are tied wth 13 each in the goals difference department.
