NEW YORK (AP) -- A Bangladeshi man snared in an FBI terror sting considered targeting President Barack Obama and the New York City Stock Exchange before settling on a car bomb attack on the Federal Reserve, just blocks from the World Trade Center site, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation and talked to the AP on condition of anonymity, stressed that the suspect never got beyond the discussion stage in considering an attack on the president.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Newsweek will end its print publication after 80 years and shift to an all-digital format in early 2013.

Its last U.S. print edition will be its Dec. 31 issue. The paper version of Newsweek is the latest casualty of a changing world where readers get more of their information from websites, tablets and smartphones. It's also an environment in which advertisers are looking for less expensive alternatives online.

Senate President Gaoteote Tofau Palaie was prepared to be the first witness testifying yesterday before the Senate Investigative Committee (SIC) probe into the federally funded Section 1602 low income housing program administered by the Development Bank of American Samoa (DBAS).

However, SIC chairman Lualemaga Faoa made the public announcement that due to the lack of a quorum, the hearing would be postponed until further notice.

Gov. Togiola Tulafono has called for the Second Special Session of the 32nd Legislature to convene next Monday “for a period not to exceed 12 calendar days.” The governor’s letter for the special session, dated Oct. 11, was received by Fono leaders the following day.

“The two separate traffic accidents in one month could have been fatalities. Luckily, the passengers were only injured, some with minor injuries, some seriously injured… because the drivers [were] allegedly under the influence of alcohol and it’s very dangerous to operate a vehicle when intoxicated,” said Ta’aloloioufaiva Captain John Cendrowski, the Commanding Officer for the Traffic Division under the Department of Public Safety.

Last Saturday marked the start of the second round robin as teams are on the final leg in jockeying for the top two spots in the division.

REPEAT OFFENDER MARK FAIPAUA ENTERS GUILTY PLEA

Mark Faipaua will be sentenced next month after entering into a plea agreement with the government in a stealing case from July 2009. Fiapaua, who is currently serving jail time in a murder case that occurred in September, 2009 was initially charged with first degree burglary and stealing.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has again sought another time extension to reply to the  citizenship lawsuit led by Leneuoti F. Tuaua, along with five individuals and a Samoan organization based in California.

Defendants in the case are the U.S. State Department, Hillary Rodham Clinton in her official capacity as Secretary of State, and Janice L. Jacobs, in her official capacity as Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs.
