A man accused of beating his wife with an electric fan stand two years ago was arrested last week for the said incident.

Samoa News has chosen not to name the defendant to protect the identity of the victim in this matter.

The defendant made his initial appearance in the District Court last week Friday, before District Court Judge John Ward.

After beating Wales in Cardiff, Manu Samoa have given France a big fright in Paris before going down by 22 points to 14.

With the festive season getting closer, Christmas in the Park for Samoa is promising a treat for families this year.

The local version of Christmas in the Park – a concert widely staged in countries like New Zealand, Australia and parts of the United States - was launched on Thursday evening at the Tanoa Tusitala conference room.

The launch gave a glimpse of what the community can expect to see. Performers, dancers, singers, choirs and bands will have an all-Samoan line up locally and from overseas on the 15 December.

Air New Zealand customers traveling out of Samoa will be hit with an increase in excess baggage fees starting Tuesday.

Customers who pay for excess baggage at Faleolo Airport will pay $250 per additional piece, instead of $150 tala.

For an additional second piece, it will cost an added $400 tala, and for an additional third piece, $500 tala more; for flights to New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Overweight charge for bags over 23kg but under 32kg and oversized items will cost $250 tala instead of $150 tala.

Symbols determining the meaning and pronunciation of Samoan words will be restored in the written language and teaching of Samoan in schools.

The use of apostrophes and macrons in Samoan words were removed in the 1960s by the Ministry of Education.
