“No overtime for Customs Officers is a loss to the government. From October 2012 to March 2013, Customs collected $400,000+ from the business community to pay for overtime, however from April 8 to May 8 (2013) the government collected zero dollars,” said Treasurer  Falema’o 'Phil' M Pili responding to Samoa News queries.
 

Congressman Faleomavaega Eni’s office has been informed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) that is highly improbable it will grant American Samoa a cabotage waiver which would allow a foreign carrier to operate in out and out of the territory, other than under emergency circumstances.
 
This is according to the Congressman’s letter this week to Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga, who requested during a territorial leaders' meeting last month to look into getting a cabotage waiver for the territory.
 

There are no new developments regarding the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) seeking the expertise and advice of an outside auditor to conduct an internal investigation of the semi-autonomous agency's role as a fuel supplier, except for the fact that representatives from ExxonMobil will be paying ASPA a visit next week. This is according to ASPA Executive Director Utu Abe Malae in an email correspondence to the Samoa News yesterday.
 

A Tafuna man being held behind bars on bail of $100,000 on allegations that he shot his wife last week has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, unlawful use of a firearm and third degree assault.
 
The defendant was arraigned in the High Court yesterday, where he denied the charges against him before Chief Justice Michael Kruse, after waiving his rights to a preliminary examination hearing in the District Court.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman Faleomavaega announced this week that he has been informed that Cadet Candidate Lefagaoalii Annie Amosa has successfully completed the course requirements at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Preparatory School and will, upon her graduation on May 21ST, receive an offer of appointment to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 

Tokelau is considering how to move its administration office in Apia in Samoa back to the atolls.

The office was set up to improve the remote atolls’ ability to communicate with the outside world but the manager, Joe Suveinakama, says there is a push to take the staff and the services back to Tokelau.

He says during consultations last week between the Council for the Ongoing Government and the villagers, the country’s leader, the Ulu o Tokelau, Salesio Lui, spoke of ’bringing home the catch’.
